Photography plays a subtle and multi-layered role in Gabriele Rothemann's work: she not only depicts, she always establishes relationships between the past and the present, between fact and fiction. Her works mostly deal with existential questions - in particular the fundamental question of life: its finiteness. With her edition ‘We Will Not Fight’, Rothemann has created a pacifist statement and a poetic image against the warlike crises of our time. This artistic commentary is based on the discovery that pigeon feathers can be coated with a light-sensitive emulsion and then developed and fixed like photographic paper. This photo shows the photographic reproduction of the three-dimensional object feather with the exposed line of text. The phrase ‘We Will Not Fight’ was taken from a publication on conscientious objection from the First World War. We are very pleased to be able to offer this touching sheet in a small edition of 20 copies.
