Aaron Curry’s paintings, sculptures, and installations are imaginative and tuned into the cosmos, yet they are also full of references to art history and pop culture. To accompany the publication Tune Yer Head, produced for his big solo show at the Bass Museum of Art in Miami, Hatje Cantz publishes a special edition book housed in a cloth-covered slipcase, accompanied by an original collage. ?Collages are central to Curry’s practice. In them, he combines drawing, sculpture, two- and three-dimensionality, all-over, and recycling methods in the smallest of spaces. Curry has created eight unique pieces for Tune Yer Head, Head. The paperboard pieces, previously silkscreened with graffiti-like patterns in fluorescent and non-fluorescent colors, were torn and cut up, layered on top of each other, then glued and taped together until an interesting play of surface, shape, and color emerged. Each one is unique, and at the same time, an allusion to the artist’s entire oeuvre.

Die Kartonstücke, zuvor mit graffiti-artigen Mustern in teils fluoreszierenden Farben im Siebdruckverfahren bedruckt, werden gerissen und geschnitten, übereinander geschichtet, geklebt und getaped, bis ein interessantes Spiel aus Fläche, Form und Farbe entsteht, ein jedes ein Unikat und gleichzeitig auf das gesamte Werk des Künstlers verweisend. Aaron Currys Bilder, Skulpturen und Installationen sind fantasievoll und kosmisch-abgedreht, dabei voller Bezüge zu kunsthistorischen und popkulturellen Vorbildern.
