Walter Niedermayr (*1952 in Bolzano, Italy) is one of the great European photographic artists of our time. His sensitive visual language—which has been copied by countless other photographers in recent years—is marked by its subtle blend of colors. Niedermayr become familiar to a larger public through his series on Alpine landscapes, architecture, and infrastructures.
For this project, he traveled between 2005 and 2008 to Teheran, Isfahan, Yazd, Shiraz, and other smaller cities and historical sites in Iran. His excursions led to the creation of a new group of works in which he examines various aspects of contemporary Iranian architecture in their cultural and historical context.
The Collector’s Edition is a diptych of an urban landscape that is an astonishing visual example of the country’s orientation on Western architectural traditions—colorful billboards, a beltway, and apartment blocks that look as if they could be located anywhere in the world.

Walter Niedermayr (*1952 in Bozen) ist einer der großen europäischen Fotokünstler unserer Zeit. Seine sensible Bildsprache, die in den letzten Jahren von zahllosen anderen Fotografen leider viel kopiert wurde, ist durch die zurückgenommene Farbdichte gekennzeichnet. Einem breiten Publikum bekannt wurde Niedermayr durch seine Bildserien zu alpinen Landschaften, Architekturen und Infrastrukturen.
Für dieses Projekt reiste er in den Jahren 2005 bis 2008 nach Teheran, Isfahan, Yazd, Schiraz sowie in kleinere Städte und zu historischen Stätten des Iran. Es entstand eine neue Werkgruppe, in der er die architekturhistorischen Zusammenhänge der aktuellen iranischen Architektur vor ihrem kulturellen und geschichtlichen Kontext hinterfragt.
