Photographs

Matthias Hoch (*1958, Radebeul) lives in Leipzig.

1983–88: studied Photography at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig (HGB); graduated in 1988; 1990: DAAD scholarship for study at the Universität/GHS Essen; 1991: master student at the HGB Leipzig. Numerous solo and group exhibitions in Germany and abroad.

Matthias Hoch tends to select objective details and reduced compositions for his architectural photographs, an approach that imbues his images with a monumental austerity. His compositions derive their rhythm from sequences of elements and color fields, while minor deviations and asymmetries mediate the formal stringency of the grid pattern.

The Collector’s Edition we are now offering is from a recent series of photographs done in Rome, images that reflect the influence of a softer, more southerly light. Yet here as well, Matthias Hoch persistently documents developments — and wrong turns — in European urban architecture of the past several decades.

Collector's Editions will be shipped upon receipt of payment (including postage and handling) or credit card authorization.
