Kati Heck (*1979) is a Düsseldorf artist who lives in Antwerp and seems well on the way to international success. In the art world she’s often regarded as one of the heirs to German Expressionism. Her monumental paintings recall the establishments and beauties portrayed by Otto Dix, while at the same time her virtuoso, Old-Master-style painting technique is astounding. With her mix of styles—from photo-realist figures to cartoon-like and drawn elements—her work is closely related to both Realism and Abstract Art. Like Robert Rauschenberg, Heck occasionally combines non-traditional materials and everyday objects to produce unusual pictorial creations. “Obviously and persuasively, she is always questioning the art of painting,” says Jan Hoet about her oeuvre.

Kati Heck (*1979) ist eine Düsseldorfer Künstlerin mit Wohnsitz in Antwerpen, die auf dem besten Weg scheint, international zu reüssieren. In der Kunstwelt wird sie häufig als Erbin des deutschen Expressionismus angesehen: Ihre monumentalen Gemälde erinnern an die Etablissements und Schönen der Nacht von Otto Dix, zugleich verblüfft ihre virtuose, an Alte Meister gemahnende Maltechnik. Mit ihrem Stilmix aus fotorealistisch dargestellten Figuren, comicartigen und zeichnerischen Elementen steht sie dem Realismus wie der Abstraktion nahe. Wie Robert Rauschenberg fügt Heck immer wieder auch nicht-traditionelle Materialien und alltägliche Gegenstände zu ungewöhnlichen Bildschöpfungen. »Deutlich und überzeugend stellt sie permanent die Kunst der Malerei in Frage«, kommentierte Jan Hoet ihre Arbeit.
