For her new monograph Gute Gründe (Good Reasons), Nanne Meyer reacted to the book’s title with her edition, using the sheets of paper discarded during the printing process for drawing. She took the randomly overprinted motifs and wastepaper cut to size and painted over them, turned them, flipped them, and drew over them with colored pencils or ink wash pens, creating a finely articulated network of cross-references, doubles, overpaintings, and blank spaces. Each sheet reflects Mayer’s various ways of dealing with the medium of drawing and playfully allows the book’s individual pages to enter into a visual dialogue with each other. The numbers in the titles refer to the pages of the book printed on top of each other; each sheet of paper, inserted into the book, invites the reader to leaf through and take a closer look. We are very pleased to be able to offer these fifteen unique works of art as part of the Edition Hatje Cantz.
