Armin Mueller-Stahl’s latest illustrations for his political poem “Der wien Vogel fliegen kann” are powerful, intense paintings that are sometimes harshly colorful. Together with the lines of text from 1968 and 2016, they create an impressive overall composition on the theme of freedom, state control, and individual resistance. We are very pleased to be able to offer a single, stand-alone illustration from this complex of works as part of the Edition Gerd Hatje. Verordnete Gerüchte (2018) is a very personal comment on the situation of the world today. Mysterious, abstract figures are grouped on an expressive, yellow-pink background, whose particularly vivid colors are strikingly articulated in the delicate pigment print on Hahnemühle Museum Etching paper.
