Zoltán Jókay
Portraits

Zoltán Jókay (*1960  in Munich).

1984–1993: studied communication design with a concentration in photography at the Universität/GH Essen. Has received several awards, including the Aenne-Biermann Prize for Contemporary German Photography (1995) and the Young Photographers’ Prize awarded by the city of Munich (1999).

Zóltan Jókay’s photographs are self-images. Photography is the language and the tool he uses to come to terms with his own biography. In the early 1990s, Jókay made his public debut in the art world with sich erinnern (remembering), a series of portraits on the theme of childhood. He then went on to produce three more series, sich begegnen (encountering), erwachsen werden (growing up) and fremd, photographs that speak with striking psychological and emotional power of the nuances of happiness.

Our Collector’s Edition features a photograph from the erwachsen werden series taken during Jókay’s stay in Budapest on a grant from the city of Munich.

Collector's Editions will be shipped upon receipt of payment (including postage and handling) or credit card authorization.
