To commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of his death, Hatje Cantz is publishing a book in June that shows Picasso's everyday life from a very personal perspective. Star photographer Edward Quinn, whose friendship with Picasso lasted almost twenty years, portrayed the artist in many situations where others would have felt uncomfortable being observed: while shopping, during a visit to the barbershop, dining in a restaurant—in other words, Picasso, as he lives and breathes.
Hatje Cantz has already published three books that illuminate different aspects of his work and his person: Picasso – Blue and Pink Period features pictures that are among the most beautiful and emotional works of art of the modern age. The Picasso Connection – The Artist and His Bremen Gallerist brings together Picasso's outstanding prints. And Picasso – El Greco examines Picasso's fascinating artistic dialogue with the old master in thirty different juxtapositions.
With its magical selection of photographs, Picasso, Friends and Family now brings us closer to Picasso the man in a way that lets us discover entirely new facets of a person we only thought we all knew.
